Important tax information for 2006 and 2007.

Established in 1981, Friends of Washoe is a non-profit organization (501.c3) dedicated to the welfare of chimpanzees and especially the family of chimpanzees at the Chimpanzee and Human Communication Institute located on the campus of Central Washington University, in Ellensburg, Washington.

We hope that you will be interested in joining us in support of this important sanctuary as a member of Friends of Washoe. Discovering friendship is easy and personally rewarding. As a member, you will receive information that updates this project and describes available CHCI educational opportunities. Through membership, you will also become an integral part of the ongoing care and support of this unique and important family and a very special friend to the chimpanzees who are at its center.

Tax Information

If you itemize on your federal tax returns, your membership pledge or other donation to Friends of Washoe is tax deductible to the full extent of the tax code.

For 2006 and 2007, an IRA owner, age 70 1/2 or over, can directly transfer tax free, up to $100,000 per year to an eligible charitable organization. IRA owners who meet the age qualification, can take advantage of this provision, regardless of whether they itemize their deductions. The funds must be contributed directly by the IRA trustee to the eligible charity, with the amount transferred applying toward the IRA owner's minimum distribution requirement.
