Ice Cream, by Tatu (Art card)

A 4x6-inch art card of Ice Cream by Tatu. Card is blank on the inside. The back of the card features a photo of Tatu and the following text: "ICE CREAM" Painting and title by Tatu. Tatu, born December 30, 1975, joined the other chimpanzees shortly after their move to Central Washington University in 1981. The chimps use the extensive American Sign Language vocabularies to communicate with humans and each other.

Washoe Postcard

The back includes space for your message along with this text: Born in 1965, Washoe is the first nonhuman to acquire a human language--American Sign Language. She is the matriarch in a group of signing chimpanzees living on the campus of Central Washington University. Washoe uses over 240 signs to ask questions, make requests, name objects, and even make jokes.

The back includes space for your message along with this text: Founded in 1993, CHCI is a sanctuary for a unique family of chimpanzees who have acquired the signs of American Sign Language and use those signs in conversations with each other and their human companions. Our primary goal is ensuring the well-being and protection of these chimpanzees by guaranteeing their freedom from invasive or disruptive research, by maintaining a safe, healthy, and interesting environment, and respecting and providing for their individual needs.
