fruits for chimpanzees

We prepare three meals a day, seven days a week. The chimpanzees' diet is a healthy one consisting of fresh fruits and vegetables, grains, primate chow and supplements. While parties provide the fun "treats", those are the exceptions. On a daily basis we work to ensure that Tatu and Loulis get wholesome food that will contribute to a long and strong life.

You can be an honorary chef in our kitchen by helping us keep the pantry stocked. For example:

  • $100 buys a week’s worth of fruits, vegetables and other important favorites like tuna and peanut butter.

  • $40 buys a 25lb. bag of “crackers”. That's what the chimpanzees call the primate chow. They are an important supplement of proteins and minerals for the chimpanzees. We buy a couple of brands because each chimpanzee has his/her favorite.

  • $30 buys a 25lb. bag of beans. Bean soup is a staple in the chimpanzees' diet and an important healthy source of protein. We keep a variety on hand - black beans, garbanzos, pintos, split pea, etc.

  • $20 will buy bulk rice, oatmeal and farina. One of the chimpanzees' most favorite meal is plain rice with a side of fruit. They also love cereal that we flavor with peanut butter or fruit or even onions.

Any amount is welcomed and appreciated because there are always items needed in the kitchen. Your support directly impacts the continued well-being of Tatu and Loulis. You can donate by clicking here to go back the online donation form.
