2012: Dar passes away

On November 24, 2012, Dar, at age 38, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly of cardiomyopathy at the Chimpanzee and Human Communication Institute. Cardiomyopathy, or sudden cardiac failure, is one of the leading causes of death in adult male chimpanzees in captivity. After Dar's passing, Tatu and Loulis were the only remaining chimpanzees at CHCI.
